James Garfield Byrd, a resident of Citronelle, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019. He was 70 years old. Garfield was born March 15, 1949. Garfield served in the United States Army during the Vietman War. He was honorably discharged in 1970. He was a wonderful dad and a loving husband. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Garfield was preceded in death by his parents, David and Fannie Byrd; brothers, Fred Byrd and George Byrd; and sister, Lesa Lofton. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lywanda Byrd; children, Angie Byrd, Belinda Byrd (Phillip), Shirley Byrd (Bernard), LeAnn Weaver (Ashley), and Emily Byrd; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; siblings, Marcia Reed (Bob), Leo Byrd (Ramona), Elvis Byrd (Gidget), Alice Byrd, and Wanda Weaver (Steve); a host of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. A special thanks to Jacob Rivers for being with Garfield throughout this difficult time. A wake will be held for Garfield from 6pm until 9pm Friday, March 22, 2019, at Freeman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held 11am Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Lighthouse of Praise Holiness Church with Rev. Ken Davis, Rev. Wilbert Reed, and Rev. James Robert Byrd officiating.
