Ada Marie Shoemaker

Ada Marie Shoemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on July 8, 2024 at Crowne Healthcare of Citronelle. She was born on December 18, 1937. Ada was known for her vibrant personality - outgoing, funny, loving, caring, and occasionally bossy.

Ada began her career as a seamstress, honing her skills for over two decades. Later she transitioned to serving the public with warmth and grace as a waitress and cashier.

In her free time, Ada enjoyed indulging in her hobbies such as reading her bible, sewing, cooking delicious meals, baking treats for loved ones, and dancing to lively tunes.

Ada's proudest accomplishments always revolved around family. She cherished the moments spent with her children, grandchildren, and other relatives. Her presence brought joy and warmth to all those around her.

Ada was preceded in death by her parents George and Sally Fountain, her son Robert Earl Baxter; grandson, Tyson Baxter; and her sisters Faye Hamm and Carolyn Fountain. 

She is survived by her children, John Wayne Baxter, Brenda Cole (Roger), Daniel "Peewee" Baxter; grandchildren, Clay Baxter (April), Wade Baxter, Melina Baxter, Michael Baxter, Melissa Baxter, JT Baxter, Kaylon Whigham (Kelly), Rhena Baxter, Randle Baxter (Alexandra), Alton Baxter (Rebecca), and Tara Cole (Travis); numerous great-grandchildren; siblings, Buck Fountain, Bobby Fountain (Faye), Jimmy Fountain (Tina), Ora Lee Savage, and Theresa Connor; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

A wake will be held Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Freeman Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The visitation will be on Friday, July 12, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with Bro. Billy Ray Robinson officiating. The funeral service will follow on July 12 at 11:00 AM.

Ada Marie Shoemaker leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
