Alice Leigh Herring, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on December 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 21, 1941, in Citronelle, Alabama, she dedicated her life to education and her community, with a particular focus on special needs children. Alice became the Owner/Operator of Dixie Farm Supply in Citronelle, where she served her community for many years. Her passion for teaching earned her recognition as “Teacher of the Year” at Calcedeaver Elementary School.

Alice was a proud and accomplished individual who returned to college in her late 50s, earning her Master’s degree in education from South Alabama after raising her children. She was not only academically accomplished but also embodied a vibrant spirit that touched many lives. In her senior year of high school, she was honored as Miss CHS, a testament to her outgoing, devoted, and supportive nature.

Known for her culinary talents, Alice was an amazing cook who hosted Sunday lunches for her family, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere filled with love. Additionally, she had a deep appreciation for travel, reading, gardening, collecting vintage items, and caring for her farm animals. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful garden, which provided joy not only to her but also to those who visited her home.

Alice was married to her high school sweetheart, Stanley E. Herring, Sr., for 49 wonderful years, and they shared a deep love and commitment that served as an example to all. She is survived by her son, Gene Herring (Krista); daughters, Sandy Fagan (Billy) and Paula Leigh Meinhardt (Robbin); daughter-in-law, Debbie Malone; sister, Paula Shoultz; and her cherished grandchildren: Chris Herring, Brad Herring, Josh Herring, Bayleigh Cunningham, Sydney Henderson, Kimberlyn Weaver, Race Bryan, Kim Renihan, Lauren Boltz, Jordan Smith, Aliceson Vickers, Matthew Bates, CJ Herring, and Kelsey Vrieze. Alice also leaves behind an astounding legacy of 29 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley E. Herring, Sr.; her sons, Tom Herring and Carl Herring; and her grandson, Thomas Herring.

Her life was remarkable, filled with love, dedication, and a genuine care for others. She will be remembered for her contributions to her family, her career, and her community, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the12:00 PM funeral service at Memorial Baptist Church with Bro. Dino Danzey and Bro. Barry Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery.
