Barbara Ann Brewer

December 9, 1941 — February 18, 2018

On the early morning of February 18, 2018, the Brewer family was shaken to our very core when we suddenly and unexpectedly lost our most precious mother; our daddy lost his best friend, love of his life, of nearly sixty years…and the angels sang!

Barbara Ann Kinsaul was born two days following Pearl Harbor, December 9, 1941. She was born to Ruby and Kenneth Cleon Kinsaul in Hartselle, Alabama.

Barbara moved to Mobile County as a young child and attended Mobile County schools, where she met her beloved. They began as school aged friends who blossomed into soulmates. After a prom night engagement and her 1960 graduation from Vigor High School, she married our daddy, Larry Jacob Brewer, Sr, at Culvert Street Baptist Church on October 7, 1960. Together, they created a beautiful legacy of love, a love that many only read about in novels. Through that love, the Lord blessed them with five children.

After a move to Plano, TX (and all of her children reaching school age), Barbara joined two of her passions, children and cooking, and began working for the Plano Independent School District’s Nutritional Services Department. She retired from PISD as a manager from Plano’s largest senior high school, where she daily oversaw the nutritional needs of more than 2000 students.

Barbara’s true life’s work was as a wife, a mother, and a grammy. She loved her children, and our daddy, with every fiber of her being. Barbara spoiled her family, and neighborhood, with her gentle voice, hugs, amazing cooking and baking. She embodied the true meaning of selflessness and unconditional love; she was a living example of love as God intended it to be, and has left behind three generations to carry on her legacy.

Barbara entered the loving embrace of our most gracious and merciful Father, and loved ones who went before her, on February 18, 2018. She is preceded in death by her parents and in-laws. Barbara is survived by her loving and adoring husband and best friend, Larry Jacob Brewer, Sr.; her 5 children: son- Larry Jacob, Jr (Jay) of Slidell, LA (wife Clemi and children: Ashley Ann, Larry III, Joshua, Justin); daughter- Kathy Ann Brewer Harp of Texarkana, TX (husband Bill Harp and children: Nicholas and Hayley); daughter- Pamela Rae Brewer (children: Claire Adams and Colton Adams); son- Michael Darrin of Hope Mills, NC (wife Amy and children: Ava and Olivia); son- Kenneth “Scott” of Diamondhead, MS (wife Brittany and children: Hayden, Harrison, and Hamilton). Barbara is also survived, as Grammy, by five great grandchildren: Jalen, Jordan, and Alani Lucas; Derek Brewer; Olivia Brewer; as well as brothers, Kenneth Earl Pouncey and Lonnie (Jackie) Mixon, five Brewer sisters-in-law and their spouses, one brother-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Hosted by Freeman Funeral Home of Citronelle, AL, The Brewer family will be receiving guests on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 am at Turnerville Baptist Church. A celebration of Barbara’s life will follow at 12:00 pm. A graveside service will be held, immediately following the celebration of life, at Turnerville Cemetary. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Barbara’s name to your favorite charity. Our life was filled with love, special traditions and celebrations, delicious meals and pastries, silliness and laughter, and family devotion, we’re just not ready for the love story to be over. Our home has always been wherever she was and now her home is along the streets of gold; although we’re feeling lost without her, we are clinging to the truths and promises of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We are certain that she is celebrating with the angels around the throne of our Heavenly Father and we know, without a shadow of a doubt, that we will see our momma’s sweet face and feel her warm, loving hugs again. GLORY!
