Carl V. Reed, known affectionately as "Carl V," passed away peacefully at his home on January 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 23, 1940, Carl dedicated the majority of his life to a career as a dump truck driver, a testament to his hard work and commitment to his craft.
Carl was not just known for his profession; he was a vibrant personality who brought joy to those around him. Described as happy, the life of the party, funny, and loving, he enriched the lives of his friends and family with his warmth and humor. His love for music, particularly Bluegrass, was a significant part of his life. Carl's enthusiasm extended to his faith; he cherished his time spent at Liberty Holiness Church, where he was a founding member, dedicating himself to prayer and reading the Bible every night.
Carl's enthusiasm for gatherings and enjoying food with family and friends exemplified his spirit of togetherness. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his children: Joey Reed, Harvey Reed (Marsha), Jimmy Reed (Angela), and Tosha Chestang (B.J.); siblings Sandra Weaver (Frank), Lucille Weaver, Wanda Reed, and Ormatha Rester (Speedy); his special niece, Kristy Reed (Jason); as well as his special caretaker, Justin McCarley (April). Carl is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
Carl was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lottie Virginia Reed; his grandson, Justin Reed; his parents, Gaines and Queeney Reed; and siblings Tex Reed (Eulean), Grable Weaver (Leroy), Elizabeth Reed, Martin Reed, Opra Reed, Bertha Reed, and Priscilla Lewis, known as "Mrs. Murphy."
A wake will take place on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Magnolia Holiness Church. Visitation will be held on January 14, 2026, from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM funeral service with Bro. Timothy Johnson and Bro. Steve Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Hillspring Cemetery.
Carl V. Reed's legacy of laughter, kindness, and devotion to faith and family will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who loved him.
