Carrol Johnston, Sr., affectionately known as Ray, passed away on May 22, 2025, at Crowne Healthcare of Mobile, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 18, 1937. Ray lived a life rich in love and dedication, which was evident not only in his accomplishments but also in the memories he created with those around him. Ray graduated from Leroy High School, where he excelled in athletics, particularly baseball—an avid interest that he carried throughout his life. Following his passion for service, he proudly served in the United States Navy, exemplifying the values of duty and dedication.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Ray found great joy in spending time with his family and friends. He was particularly proud of his children and grandchildren, cherishing each moment shared with them. His is survived by his children: Richard Johnston (Patti), Deborah Gaw (Allen Harris), and Lori Lane; grandchildren, Jeremy Richardson (Amy), Jason Richardson (Tiffany), Chelsea Moore (Clyde), Brieana Rae Searcy, Lee J Gaw (Skyla), Cory Gaw (Melanie), Robert Harris (Brittney), Valerie Beeson, and Francine Lane-Anderson (Shawn). Ray also leaves behind seventeen great-grandchildren; one great great grandson; siblings, Gloria Bailey and Charlie Johnston, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Sandra Jean Johnston, his son, Carrol Ray Johnston, Jr. "Tinker", his parents, John and Ida Johnston, and his siblings, Jeanette Martin, Connie Johnston, Sr., Arnold Johnston, and Mell Johnston.

A visitation will be held to honor Ray’s life at Sims Chapel Community Church on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM with Bro. Claiborne Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in Sims Chapel Community Cemetery.

Ray Johnston's life was a testament to love, service, and family. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
