Pastor Charles “Doug” Fairchild, who was born June 25, 1968, to parents Charles Fairchild and Hazel Laughlin in Mobile, Alabama, passed on November 4, 2025. From a young age he had a calling to minister the word of God. As a child he used to preach to his toys and once even tried to baptize the family dog. He began his ministry in earnest at age 14, taking his place behind the pulpit of Brother Loyd Lane’s church. He continued to minister faithfully for 42 years. His last assignment was as at Charity Chapel Assembly of God where he served as Pastor for 11 years to a community he cared for deeply. He cared for this community until his last days, praying for those who sought comfort while on his deathbed. Doug was also well-known as a scholar of the word of God, a musician, and an artist. He shared his talents and passion for creativity and knowledge with people from all over the world, finding friends in every nook of the globe.
Doug was also a faithful and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Joell Fairchild and daughter Candice Fairchild. In addition to his beloved wife and daughter he is survived by his sisters, Patricia Thomas and Rosey Wilson (spouse Donny Wilson) and their children, Samantha Wheat, Josh Graves, Paul Fairchild, Jessica Moseley, and Justin Moseley. He is also survived by a host of close friends and family, including his cherished daughter-in- law Hope McNamee, and Amanda Reeves, a close friend of Candice, who he considered to be his adopted daughter.
Doug is preceded in death by his mother and father as well as his beloved grandparents Everrett L. Hatcher and Annie Hatcher, and his deeply missed nephew Matthew Graves.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 10:00 AM with Bro. Johnny Forister officiating at Helveston Family Cemetery. Burial will follow after the service.
