Don Earl Mowdy, born on November 5, 1935, passed away peacefully at his home on September 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Don's life was marked by both outstanding professional dedication and a deep love for his family.
Don enjoyed a successful 39-year career as a chemist with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), from which he retired, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and service. He carried the same spirit of dedication into his personal life, where his pride and joy were always his loved ones.
He is survived by his cherished children: Jill Mowdy, Drew Mowdy (Melinda), and Rick Mowdy (Lonetta); grandchildren, Samantha Motes (Adam), Dylan Mowdy (Jessica), Claudia Denmark (Garret), Hannah Bush (Caleb), Rebekah Mowdy (Eeyon), and Samuel Mowdy; great-grandchildren, Wendell, Camille, Alice, Ramona, Mamie, and Elijah. His faithful companion, Rocky, also held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his sister, Judith McClung, and sisters-in-law, Marjorie Klinger Peterson and Susie Klinger. Throughout his life, Don had the privilege of forming many friendships and relationships with numerous relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara "Bobby" Mowdy, and his parents, Hill and Earline Mowdy.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Don loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His creative passions included firearms, knife making, woodworking, and flying remote-controlled airplanes. These hobbies not only brought him joy, but also served as avenues for him to share memorable moments with family and friends.
As he departs from this world, the memory of Don Earl Mowdy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be remembered not only for his contributions to his community and career but, more importantly, for the love he shared with his family and friends.
