Ed Wain Newburn, a devoted family man and revered member of the Citronelle community, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on March 20, 1941, Ed led a life characterized by a strong work ethic and an unwavering dedication to his loved ones, proudly declaring himself the "patriot of his family."
Ed's passion for family was evident in everything he did. He leaves behind children Virginia Lester (Michael), Bill Newburn (Samantha), Lisa Newburn, and Sharon Thompson. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Laneta Lester, Matthew Newburn (Harley), Morgen Prine (Joel), Bentley Newburn, Chelsea Mae Newburn, Mitchell Lester, Joseph Knue, and River Newburn. Ed’s pride expanded to encompass great-grandchildren Jada, Jozlynn, Colton, Saidee, Waylon, Carston, Maycie, Adaleigh, and Darren, and great-great-grandchildren Jaxon and Sylus. He also shared a bond with his sister, Louise Henderson, along with a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
In addition to his family, Ed had a variety of interests and hobbies that brought him joy. He spent countless hours doing mechanic work, enjoying fishing, and riding down dirt roads, often delighting in "grease and something" to eat. His vibrant spirit kept the road hot, and he imparted that sense of adventure to all who knew him.
Ed is preceded in death by his beloved wife Sharon D. Newburn; his grandson, Joseph Adam Turner, and brothers Calvin Joseph Newburn (infant), Marcie Newburn, Jabo Newburn, and Punky Newburn, as well as a sister, Betty Buchanan.
A wake will be held at Freeman Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at Cedar Creek Church-Brethren on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 3:00 PM with Bro. Keith Brannan and Bro. Dalton Brannan officiating. Burial will follow in Brethren Cemetery.
