Ernest Leon Brannan, a loving family man, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 19, 2023. He was born on August 8, 1950.
Leon had an impressive career at Shell Chemical Co., where he devoted 20 years of his life. His commitment and dedication were evident in his work ethic, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. However, Leon's true joy came from his hobbies and family.
A graduate of CHS in 1968, Leon excelled in multiple sports during his high school years. Among his many passions, racing stood out as one that he cherished deeply. He shared this love with his daughter as they embarked on the journey of Pot Luck Racing together. Leon became her biggest supporter and fan as they pursued their dreams on the racetrack. His determination was infectious, and he always said with confidence, "Put me in a wheelbarrow, and I will win."
Alongside his fulfilling career and thrilling hobbies, Leon also served as a member of the Army National Guard for six years. This experience strengthened his character further while instilling discipline and values that he carried throughout his life.
Leon adored spending time outdoors hunting and fishing when he had the chance.
As we gather to celebrate Leon's life and bid farewell, we invite everyone to join us for the wake on July 21st at Freeman Funeral Home. Wake will begin at 6:00 PM and conclude at 8:00 PM.
The funeral service will take place the following day, July 22nd, also at Freeman Funeral Home. Starting at 10:00 AM with Bro. Dino Danzey and Bro. Keith Brannan officiating, we will come together to honor the life of Ernest Leon Brannan. We will forever remember the impact he had on our lives and the love he shared with each and every one of us.
Pallbearers will be Derek Hovell, Blaine Tyler, Trent Brannan, Dallas Brannan, Gavin Sigler, and Robbie Smith,
Leon is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Karen "Kay" Barnes Brannan, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Together they created a loving home and raised two wonderful children, Marc Brannan (Kristy) and Brandy Harvison (Randy). Leon was a wonderful grandfather to six grandchildren, Derek (Jennifer), Morgan (Blaine), Tyler, Trent (Hannah), Dallas, and Shelby. In addition to his grandchildren, Leon was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Ezra, Emmett, Nevaeh, and Jacob.
He is also survived by his brothers, Joe Brannan (Cathy), Tommy Brannan (Bobbie), Charles Meinhardt (Debra), Ronnie Williams (Gina), and Greg Williams (Tammy); his sister, Dotty Pipkin (Neil); brother-in-law, Billy Barnes (Louise); and many nieces, nephews, and one devoted nephew, Keith Brannan (Catrina). Leon's presence in our lives will be greatly missed, but we find solace in knowing that his spirit lives on within each of us.
Leon was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Brannan (Dot); mother, Mary Alice Williams (Zach); step sister, Regina Williams Linder; in-laws, Frank and Kathryn Barnes; and brother-in-law, Randy Elliott Barnes.
