Frances Elizabeth Stanley

Mrs. Frances Wolfe Stanley, 95, a resident of Mobile, Alabama passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Providence Hospital. She was born on August 12, 1922 at home in Saraland, Alabama to Bruce and Cora Cox Wolfe. In 1937, she and her family moved to Citronelle, Alabama where she met Clifford E. “Bill” Stanley, the love of her life. She was a home front veteran, working at Alabama Dry Docks and Shipbuilding during World War II, first in the personnel office and then as the local purchasing agent. She moved to Waco, Texas when Bill returned from overseas and worked as a payroll clerk at Brown & Root. She worked in the foreign department at Merchants Bank from January 1948 until she returned to college. She graduated from Spring Hill College at age 40, and started a new career teaching 2nd and 3rd graders at Forest Hill Elementary School in Mobile for 20 years. After retirement in 1982, she enjoyed taking care of her granddaughter, helping Bill on their family farm in Citronelle, Alabama and loved traveling to research their family genealogy. She and her husband were faithful members of Cottage Hill Baptist Church until their health would not allow them to do so. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Clifford E. “Bill” Stanley and brother, Franklin Wolfe. Those left to cherish her memory is her children, Duane (Cheryl) Stanley and Diane (Barry) Woodward; grandchildren, Keith Stanley (Tonya Rodrigue) and Amy Woodward (James Bolger); great grandson, Dean; other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 11 am until the 12 pm Funeral Service on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Freeman Funeral Home. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
