Grover Douglas Byrd

March 4, 1949 — October 6, 2021

Grover Douglas Byrd, known throughout the community as ''Heavy Duty'', a resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, October 06, 2021. He was 72 years old. Grover was a very patriotic person and showed his love for his country by serving in the United States Military and retired as a Staff Sergeant. He loved to hunt and fish, and mostly, he loved being the boss! He was a devoted member of the community, volunteering for many years on the Calcedeaver Fire Department. He always looked out for his community and made sure things were in order. He lived his Indian Heritage and was proud to be a member of the MOWA Choctaw Tribe, ''Chief Red Byrd'' role number 001, and was a former Chairman of the Mobile County Delegation. Grover was one of a kind, broke the mold, who was loved by everybody. Above all, Grover loved his family unconditionally and they will miss him dearly.

Grover was preceded in death by his son, Grover ''Nute'' Byrd; parents, Rudolph and Maxine Byrd; nephew, Albert ''Lil Albert'' Byrd, Jr.; and niece, Lacey Weaver.
