Hattie V Sullivan

Hattie V. Sullivan, born February 18, 1923, passed away on September 18, 2026, leaving behind a long and meaningful life that touched her family, friends, and the wider community.

Mrs. Sullivan was known as a pillar in her community, a distinction earned through the steady presence, strength, and warmth she brought to those around her. She was also the oldest person in the community, a remarkable place of honor that reflected both the length of her years and the regard in which she was held.

She found joy in the simple and enduring pleasures of life. She loved sewing and crocheting, pastimes that spoke to her patience, creativity, and care. She especially loved playing bingo, a favorite enjoyment that brought fun and fellowship. She also enjoyed dancing and treasured family gatherings, where her presence helped make occasions memorable and full of heart.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Willard Lipscomb (Karen), Carol Byrd (Billy), Juanita Sullivan (Hank), Barbara Sullivan (George), and Annette Orso; twenty-five grandchildren; a multitude of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great great-great grandchildren; brother, Hubert Reed; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Hale Lipscomb; children, Theresa Weaver, Maylon Weaver, George McCary Lipscomb, Bernice Rivers, and Bobby Lipscomb; parents, Chris and Annette Reed; and twelve siblings.

Hattie’s life will be remembered not only for the years she lived, but for the spirit with which she lived them. Her legacy is one of community, resilience, and joy in the company of others. Those who knew her will remember a woman whose life was woven with devotion to the people and pastimes she loved.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service at Freeman Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie Rivers and Bro. Bobby Morton officiating. Burial will take place at Byrd Cemetery.
