Henry Lawrence Tillman

May 17, 1937 — July 22, 2020

Reverend Henry Lawrence Tillman, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on July 22, 2020 at 83. Known as ‘Larry’ by his friends, he was born, May 17, 1937 to Robert and Elizabeth Tillman of Mobile, Alabama, one of seven children.

At age 18, Larry enlisted in the US Army 82nd Airborne Division where he was a paratrooper for three years. It was in the Army that Larry was introduced to the gospel of Jesus Christ and was born again as described in the gospel of John chapter 3. It was in the Army that God called Larry into full time pastoral ministry, so he left the Army to be trained as a pastor. Larry immediately enrolled in William Carey College, Hattiesburg, Mississippi and earned his bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in English by 1963. It was there he met the love of his life, Peggy and the two were wed on August 18, 1962. He then enrolled in New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and earned his Master’s of Theology in 1967. During his time as a pastor, he was ordained in the Southern Baptist tradition and served as pastor to seven congregations. He would later move into pastoral ministry in the United Methodist Church, teach high school English, and serve as a high school principal.

Larry was a life-long learner, reading hundreds of books, and studying and writing as he preached and taught Sunday School even well into his retirement. He loved horses and spending time with his brother, Bobby Tillman, on their mutual interest in horses. Larry is survived by his wife Peggy; three children Betsy Easterbrook (husband Brett), Barry Tillman (wife Jennifer), and Esther Glenn (husband Steve); seven grandchildren Turner Easterbrook (wife Emily), Megan Tillman, Daniel Tillman, John Henry Glenn, Paul Glenn, Sam Glenn and Elizabeth Glenn; and one great grandchild, Ezra. One grandson, Jeremiah Easterbrook, preceded Larry in death. The family takes comfort in the knowledge that Larry and Jeremiah are in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Memorial donations may be made to New Life Deliverance Centers at Abundant Life Church, P.O Box 1075, Waynesboro, MS 39367.
