Horace D. "Mike" Prine

February 22, 1932 — January 19, 2019

Horace D. “Mike” Prine, 86, a native and resident of Deer Park, Alabama passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Providence Hospital. Mike was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mr. Prine served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and in recent years, he enjoyed fellowship with his Veteran comrades at Hardees. He was a third-generation self-employed turpentine producer and the last person in the state of Alabama to produce turpentine and turpentine products. Mike, along with his son Don, enjoyed going to Old Timer Festivals to share his knowledge on the turpentine business. He also volunteered his time with the Epworth Volunteer Fire Department and announced the Fruitdale High School football games for over 50 years. Mike will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Jessie Prine; and brother, Herman Prine. Those left to cherish his memory is wife of 63 years, Katie Jewel Prine; children, Sizy Landrum (Danny) and Don Prine (Lisa); four grandchildren, Brandy Turner, D.J. Landrum (Maree), Dusty Prine (Kathryn) and Allison Prine (Royce); eight great grandchildren, Avery, Jonah, Landon, Piper, John Daniel, Davey, Alex, and Harper; other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 12pm until the 2 pm funeral service on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Freeman Funeral Home with Dr. Elbert Charpie officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Don Prine, Dusty Prine, Danny Landrum, D.J. Landrum, Avery Turner, and Jonah Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be the Epworth Volunteer Fire Department members, Clarence Miller, Gavin Scarbrough, John Grice, Phil Saul, Frank Turner, James Still, Jim Holland and Donnie Fuqua.
