Mobile, Alabama

James Alvin Fretwell, affectionately known as "Jimmy" to those who cherished him, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, at USA Health Providence Hospital. Born on March 14, 1949, Jimmy lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to his family and career.

Jimmy's professional journey began humbly as a Pump Repairman in Citronelle, Alabama. His talents and determination soon took him to Laurel, Mississippi, and later to Liberty, Texas, where he rose to the position of shop manager. His career culminated in Houston, Texas, where he excelled as a Hydraulic Sales Engineer. Known for his outgoing nature, Jimmy traveled extensively for work, forging friendships across the globe that enriched his life immeasurably.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jimmy was a beloved family man and a fixture of joy and laughter. An outgoing storyteller with a sharp wit, he was known for his caring and loving demeanor. His greatest pride was his family, with whom he delighted in sharing time and creating lasting memories. A passionate fan of college football, particularly Alabama, Jimmy found great pleasure in hosting family gatherings centered around good food cooked on his grill and hearty conversations.

Jimmy is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Janice Fretwell, who stood by his side through all seasons of life. Their children, J'Anne Inge and James Jeffery Fretwell, carry forward his legacy of love and integrity. He was a proud grandfather to Matthew Inge (Judy), Sheldon Inge, Connor Fretwell, and Annabelle Fretwell, and a loving great-grandfather to Ruben James Inge. His siblings, Wendall Fretwell (Carol), Ovenia Howard, Lorane Henderson (Don), Edna Bedgood, Doris Ridge (Robert), and Carolyn Farmer (Tom), along with many other relatives and friends, will fondly remember his vibrant spirit and generous heart.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Garfield and Stella Fretwell; his brothers Arthur, Wilton, Ernie, and R.V. Fretwell; his sisters Lois Wooley and Louise Fretwell Parrent; and his brother-in-law Jim Wycoff. Though gone, their memories remain entwined with his enduring influence.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 1:00PM until the 2:00PM funeral service at Citronelle Methodist Church with Rev. Anthony Tutor officiating. Burial will follow in Citronelle Methodist Cemetery.
