James Arthur “Jimmy” O’Brien, a resident of Citronelle, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023. He was 78 years old. Jimmy served as a submariner in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, aboard the USS Chopper 342. Later, Jimmy worked as a facility manager for Avondale Container Yard and became a member of the American Legion Post 164 in Citronelle. He also flew Cessna planes and even ran his own locomotive. In his spare time, Jimmy enjoyed woodworking and liked horses and farming.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Betty Morgan; son, Jimmy Wayne O’Brien; parents, Warren and Theresa O’Brien; and sister, Barbara Cohen.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children; Mark Scheffler, Tracy Poche’, Donald Dallas, Brian Dallas, Darryll Poche’, Crystal Dallas, Jason O’Brien, and Don Crocker; grandchildren, Paige O’Brien, Brenna Scheffler, Hannah Scheffler, Brianna Poche’, Destiny Dallas, Macy Dallas, and Donald Crocker; great grandson, Brooks; siblings, Michael O’Brien (Pam) and Patrick O’Brien (Gayle); other relatives; and friends.
