Jimmy Louis Rutland

December 31, 1939 — September 8, 2020

Jimmy Louis Rutland, 80, a lifelong resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. Jimmy served in the United States Navy. He retired with 28 years of service from Searcy Hospital as a Heating and Air Conditioning Technician. Jimmy was a faithful member of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church where he enjoyed fellowship with others in the Christian Men’s Breakfast Club. Jimmy was active in the Mount Vernon community throughout his life, being President of the Dixie Baseball Association, a Boy Scout Leader and as an EMT with the Rescue Squad in Mount Vernon. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time at the hunting camp. Jimmy loved his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Jimmy was preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy Rutland Sheffield; brother, Jerry Rutland; and sister, Uldine Carlson. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Alice Simison Rutland; sons, Ray Rutland (Linda), Tony Rutland (Katina Dungan) and Joe Rutland (Roxanne Lourcey); grandchildren, Hope Creekmore (Andy), Jeremy Rutland (Lacey), Sean Rutland (Kortnie), Chad Sheffield, Brandon Sheffield (Ashley), Corey Rutland, Kaitlin Rutland, Emma Rutland and Abby Rutland; 14 Great Grandchildren; other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 9am until the 10am funeral service on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church with Rev. Matthew Cook and Rev. Clyde Pressley officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Community Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tony Rutland, Ray Rutland, Joe Rutland, Randy Long, Greg Long, Chris Walker, Gene Harrell, Jason Harrell, Jamie Harrell and Brandon Sheffield. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Seabury, Tom Harris, Keith Rivers, Richie McLain, Dink Knight, Jr., Anthony Sheffield, Corey Rutland, Jeremy Rutland and Sean Rutland. ***The family requests that masks be worn and also to practice social distancing due to Mrs. Alice's current health condition.
