Joseph's life was a tapestry of service and dedication. Enlisting in the Navy alongside his twin brother at the age of 17, Joseph served on the USS McDermut and USS Galveston before continuing his journey in the Merchant Marines. His commitment to duty was exemplified through his military service. Following the Military service, Joseph worked as a first class chipper and grinder at Halter Marine and later transitioned to the Mississippi Department of Corrections where he retired as a Correctional Officer.
Joseph will be lovingly remembered for his kind and sociable nature. He had a remarkable memory for recounting tales from his worldly travels and delighted in sharing experiences from his time in the Merchant Marines. His affection for Elvis Presley and Marty Robbins added a musical touch to his vibrant personality.

A doting father to his children, Frieda Diana Allday and Melissa Allday Odom, Joseph found immense joy in his role as a parent, especially when vacationing with his family. His granddaughter, Kali Sabrina Odom, held a special place in his heart as the apple of his eye.
