Joseph "Big Joe" Leonard Lofton

Joseph Leonard Lofton, affectionately known as Big Joe, of Citronelle, Alabama, passed away Friday, September 08, 2017, at Springhill Medical Center in Mobile, Alabama. He was 54 years old. Joseph was born January 02, 1963, to Duggar and Alberta Lofton in Mobile, Alabama. He was known throughout the community for his skills as a tire mechanic. He was featured in the newspaper several times and the community knew him as “The Tire Doctor.” Big Joe enjoyed watching NASCAR and absolutely loved spending time with his family. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Big Joe was preceded in death by his father, Duggar “Chub” Lofton; grandparents, L.A. Lofton, Duggar Lofton, Sr., and Cooper Byrd; and granddaughter, Sarah Grace Hartsoe. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 17 years, LaSonya Lofton; children, Ray Johnson (Leeann), Amanda Godwin (Adam); grandchildren, Wyatt Godwin, Joseph Godwin, Nickolas Johnson, Carson Johnson, and Zackary Johnson; mother, Alberta Lofton; siblings, Virginia Allen (Jerry), Calvin Lofton, and Gidget Byrd (Elvis); mother in law, Joan McCoy; sisters in law, Tina Burch and Kristie McCoy; brother in law, Raymond E. McCoy, Jr. (Tiffany); numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. A wake will be held for Big Joe from 6pm until 9pm Sunday, September 10, 2017, at Freeman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 11am Monday, September 11, 2017, at Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jessie Byrd and Dr. Robert “Bobby” Morton. Burial will follow in Byrd Cemetery.
