Joseph Donnie Hunter, cherished brother, uncle, and devoted member of his community, passed away on August 23, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on September 4, 1948, Joseph’s long and meaningful life touched all who knew him.
Donnie’s journey was deeply rooted in Citronelle, Alabama, where he committed himself to his faith and fellowship. For over 60 years, Joseph was a steadfast member of Full Gospel Tabernacle, where his presence was both familiar and comforting. His love for the church was profound, and he found great joy in expressing that devotion through music—playing instruments, singing hymns, and uplifting the spirits of his fellow worshippers. His music filled the sanctuary and lingered in the hearts of the congregation, testifying to his gentle, giving nature.
Outside the church, Donnie found peace and delight in squirrel hunting, appreciating the quiet moments and the beauty of the outdoors. These simple pleasures spoke to his appreciation for the everyday gifts of life and the value he placed on tradition.
Left to cherish his memory include his brother, Teddy Hunter (Tracie); nieces and nephews, Jody Hunter, Jared Hunter (Kalee), Cory Hunter (Allyson), and Ashley Hunter; great nieces and nephews, Kennedy Jane, Jude Ellis, Adalie Ella; lifelong friend, Sister Fay Patrick; many other relatives and friends.
Donnie was preceded in death by his beloved father, Lemon Ted Hunter; his mother, Sadie Hunter; his step-mother, Martha Jane Hunter; his brother, Lemon Hunter; and his sister, Vivian Hunter. Their memories remained a guiding light in Joseph’s life, and the legacy of their love carried him through his own days.
Those who knew Donnie will remember a man of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and an open heart. His commitment to his church, his enduring love of music, and his enjoyment of nature defined a life well-lived. Though he is now reunited with his departed family in peace, his spirit will live on in the memories of all who were privileged to know him.
Friends and community members are invited to gather in remembrance of Joseph Donnie Hunter. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Full Gospel Tabernacle with Bro. Mike Reid officiating. Interment will take place at Charity Chapel Cemetery.
In honoring Joseph's memory, we reflect on a life dedicated to faith, family, and the joys of music and nature. May he rest in eternal peace.
