Joseph E. Smith, 69, of Citronelle, AL, passed away peacefully at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center on October 4, 2025, with his family by his side.
Joe was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending quality time with his family at his lake house in Pachuta, MS. He was a die-hard fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide football program. Roll Tide!!!
Joe retired from Chevron after many years of dedicated service to the offshore oil and gas industry.
He loved his family and cherished every day he spent with them. He is survived by his two daughters, Brandi Turner (Dwayne) and Baylee Smith (Daryl) and his special friend, Cathy Hennington, who he loved dearly. He was a dedicated and devoted paw paw to his grandchildren, Jarrett Turner (Marlena), Trenton Turner, Camilla Turner and Dalton Hicks and one great granddaughter, Ariella Turner. His siblings include Jackie Lowe, Jamie Clanton (Doug) and Jeff Smith (Sandra) and a host of nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Smith, his parents Genevieve B. Rowell and Russell E. Smith and his brother-in-law Dickie Lowe.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons Jarrett Turner, Trenton Turner, Dalton Hicks and his best friends from the lake community, Bob Conley, Randy Williams and David Bingham.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff in the Mobile Infirmary SICU for their kindness and compassion shown through the wonderful caregiving of Joe!
There will be a graveside service at Brannan Cemetery in Citronelle on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 11am. Bro. Barton Turner, Bro. Paul Roney and Bro. John Blackwell will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Brannan Cemetery, 11070 Earl Stringer Rd. Citronelle, AL. 36522 in memory of Joe.
