Julia Lynette Thorpe, born on May 14, 1939, passed away peacefully at her home on January 4, 2026. Lynette was a beloved figure in her community, known affectionately as “everyone's granny.” She led a life characterized by selflessness and a big heart, making her a cherished friend to many who knew her.
Lynette dedicated many years to the Escambia County Public School System as a school bus driver before embarking on a new chapter in her life. Following her marriage to her late husband, Harold D. Thorpe, she moved to Mobile where she successfully managed Pollman's Bakery for an impressive 38 years. Her dedication to her work and her community left an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of working alongside her or being served by her.
Her greatest pride came from her family, which consisted of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lynette’s granddaughters, Crystal Thorpe Chestang (Thomas), Shanna Thorpe (Lydia), and Julia Brianna Thorpe (Mason), as well as her great-grandchildren, Maddison Chestang, Preston Denmark, and Wren Thorpe, were her greatest joys and accomplishments. Granny relished spending time with her family, often enjoying cooking and shopping while also indulging in moments of pampering.
Lynette was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Thorpe; her daughter, Debra L. Roach; her parents, Earnie and Gladys Cartwright; her brothers, Jerry Cartwright and Earl Cartwright; and one stepdaughter.
She is survived also by her sister, Ann Newman, two stepsons; along with many other relatives and friends who will miss her warmth and kindness.
Her legacy of love and generosity will live on through her family and all those who had the good fortune to know her. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 12:00 PM until the 1:00 PM funeral service at Semmes First Baptist Church with Bro. Eric Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in Semmes First Baptist Church Cemetery. Julia Lynette Thorpe will be remembered not only for her contributions but for the joy and love she brought into the lives of so many.
