Kattie C. Byrd, a beloved member of her community, passed away on May 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 11, 1963, Kattie was known for her warmth and her genuine love for people, a trait that touched everyone she encountered.

Kattie found joy in many aspects of life. She loved going on vacations, particularly cruises, where she embraced the adventure and beauty of new destinations. An avid wrestling fan, she enjoyed watching matches that engaged her spirited nature. Kattie also indulged in treating herself to manicures and was fond of shopping, often sharing those experiences with her family and friends.

Her proudest accomplishments were her children and, especially, her grandchildren. Kattie’s legacy lives on through her husband, Keith Byrd; her children Bobbie Munguia (Omar), Travis Byrd, Anna Weaver, Damian Davis (Jessie), Jeff Marsh (Scarlett), and Angel Reed (Dave); and her cherished grandchildren, Yery Mejia (Marcos), Maretta Lang, TK Byrd, Jaiston Snow, Acey Munguia, Baylin Munguia, Jailiana Snow, and Harmony Munguia.

Kattie was also deeply connected to her extended family, which included her aunt, Mary "Dot" Byrd; her siblings, Spencer Byrd (Barbara), Leamon Byrd, Jr. (Bonnie), Rita Byrd, Melton Byrd, Audrey Byrd, Sebron Byrd, and Robin Byrd Weaver (Hal); her sisters in-law, Alpha Byrd and Paula Weaver (Louis); and brother-in-law, Stanley Byrd (Shelia). She was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews; and special cousins, Deanna Reed (Vance), Willie Mae Buttram (Troy), Nancy Snow (Steve), and Allison Frazier who will carry her memory forward. Kattie’s bestfriend Rita Brewer (Jay) and TommyJoe Davis provided her with additional joy and companionship, alongside many other relatives and friends who were fortunate to know her.

Kattie is preceded in death by her son, Chester Lee Byrd; her parents, Leamon and Octavia Byrd; her mother-in-law, Vermell Byrd; brother-in-law, Ben Byrd; siblings, Sarah Chestang and Tex Byrd; and her nieces, Dana Byrd and Leigh Ellen Byrd, along with her nephews, Chad Byrd and Melton Byrd.

A wake will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Freeman Funeral Home with the Rosary beginning at 5:30 PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Saint Theresa Catholic Church with Father Victor Ingalls officiating. Burial will follow in Byrd Cemetery.

Kattie C. Byrd will be remembered not only for her love of family and friends but also for the joy she brought into the lives of everyone around her. Her spirit and dedication to those she cherished will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
