Lois Wooley

September 16, 1939 — June 4, 2025

Citronelle, Alabama

Lois Wooley, age 85, of Citronelle, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 16, 1939, in Andalusia, Alabama, Lois was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, and friend. She lived a life marked by love, hard work, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.

A graduate of Citronelle High School, Class of 1958, Lois began a career as an accountant, working in the oilfield and, most notably, at Dixieland, where she dedicated many years of her life. In her later years, she found joy working at Mill Creek Golf Course, especially on Wednesdays—Senior Citizens Day—where she formed many friendships.

Lois was the heart of her family—the devoted caretaker who always put others before herself. She shared a deep bond with her 12 siblings. Her greatest pride was her only son, Jerry Wooley, with whom she shared a close and loving relationship. She found great joy in his accomplishments and the man he became. Lois also treasured her close friendship with her daughter-in-law, Tonya Wooley. She loved nothing more than talking about her beloved granddaughter Nicole and Joshua Scott along with her great grandkids Faith & Daniel, whose lives brought her endless joy and pride.

Fridays held a special place in Lois’s heart, as they were reserved for adventures with her sister—traveling, dining, and making memories she would always hold dear. An avid reader, Lois had a lifelong passion for literature. She also had a deep appreciation for old houses, gardens, and magnolia trees. She was a member of Bethel Baptist church of whom we are very appreciative of their prayers and support.

Lois’s sense of humor, kindness, tenacity, and selflessness touched all who knew her. She was little, but she leaves behind a huge legacy of love and strength that will continue to inspire those she held dear.

She leaves behind her only son, Jerry (Tonya) Wooley, only granddaughter Nicole (Joshua) Scott, great grandchildren Faith and Daniel Scott, sisters Lorane (Don) Henderson, Ovenia Howard, Doris (Robert) Ridge, Edna Bedgood, Carolyn (Tom) Farmer, brothers Jimmy (Jan) Fretwell, and Windell (Carol) Fretwell, sister-in-laws Evelynn Fretwell and Barbara Fretwell along with a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Garfield and Stella Fretwell, brothers Auther Fretwell, Wilton Fretwell, R.V. Fretwell, Ernie Fretwell, and her sister Louise Parrent.
