Lucy Mary Portier

Lucy Mary Portier, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023. She was born on August 21, 1938 to Oleuse Jean Leger, Sr and Ella Hargrave Leger of Morse, LA. Lucy attended Morse High School and worked at Ruddocks Bakery to help support herself and her siblings. Lucy was one of ten children: Valley, Etau, Winnie, Ella Mae, Joyce, Emma, Oleuse, Jr., Lucille, and Thomas “Mac”. She devoted her life to the service of others, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and love that touched the lives of many. One of Lucy's greatest passions was volunteering and giving back to her community. She had an unwavering dedication to helping those in need, always ready with a hot meal.

Lucy's proudest accomplishment was her commitment to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. For years, she served continuously as a valued member of the church community, offering assistance and support to both the priest and parishioners. Her devotion to her faith was unwavering and evident in every aspect of her life.

Lucy was also a loving wife and mother. She is survived by her children, Tina Riordan of Loxley, AL; Steve (Mary) Portier of Marysville, CA; Kathy Reed of Camden, SC; Judy (Larry) Guy of Citronelle, AL; Linda (Whitey) Tyler of Citronelle, AL; Randy Portier of Mobile, AL; Vicky (Griffin) Carter of Waynesboro, MS; and Sonia (Jay) Rowell of Citronelle, AL. Lucy's siblings, Oleuse Leger Jr. of San Antonio, TX; Lucille Simon of Esterwood, LA; and Thomas "Mac" Leger of Gueydan, LA, also mourn her passing. Lucy leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who all feel the impact of her immense love and will forever cherish the memories they shared with her. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Riley; sons, Gerald Oncale, Jr., Riley A. Portier, Jr. "Bubba" and daughter-in-law, Deanne; daughter, Susan Fisher; grandchildren, Erica and Jacob Cunningham, and Bryan Joseph “B.J.” Reed; great grandchildren, Mason Riordan, Jaiden Elijhia Riordan, and Colston Drake Johnson. 

Lucy Mary Portier will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May she rest in peace.
