Mary Collins

February 26, 1932 — September 12, 2023

Mary S. Collins, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her residence on September 12, 2023. She was known for her friendly nature and social personality, which endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mary's life was a testament to compassion and connection.

Born on February 26, 1932, Mary grew up surrounded by love and support from her parents, Florence R. Shelby and John A. Shelby. She blossomed into a remarkable woman who gracefully embraced life's joys and challenges.

Mary found great fulfillment in her career as a floral arranger. Her passion for creating beautiful arrangements brought joy to many lives. Additionally, she had a natural talent for working in retail, and interacting with her customers became one of the highlights of her day. Her warm smile brightened the hearts of everyone she encountered.

In Mary's leisure time, she could often be found engaging in activities that brought her joy. She had a green thumb and loved spending hours tending to her garden and engaging in yard work. The beauty she cultivated in nature reflected the beauty within her soul. Moreover, she had an impeccable eye for interior decorating and transformed spaces into havens of comfort and serenity.

Mary's legacy of love extends beyond the scope of flowers or retail endeavors; it touches the lives of generations she nurtured and cherished.

Mary will be deeply missed by her children: Lisa C. Henries (Clarke), John D. Collins Jr., and William Scott Collins. Her wise guidance and unwavering support shaped their lives profoundly.

The love and warmth that Mary poured into her family extended to her grandchildren: John Kelly Nelson (Brandy), Lacey N. Rutland (Jeremy), Ashley S. Henries (Raphael), Kristen Gates (Nick), Summer Collins (Chris), and Kelsey M. Collins. They were truly fortunate to have a grandmother who showered them with affection and wisdom.

Mary delighted in her role as a great-grandmother, and the joy of her eight great-grandchildren brought an immeasurable amount of happiness to her days. She also had the privilege of being a great-great grandmother to one blessed little soul, whose arrival filled her heart with immense love.

Beyond her immediate family, Mary's presence touched many lives, including her dear friend Faye Richardson. Their friendship was built on mutual support, shared laughter, and countless memories that will forever be cherished.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Collins, Sr.; mother, Florence R. Shelby; and father, John A. Shelby.
