It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Ann Lummus, who left this world on May 4, 2024, at her home. She was a beloved caregiver to numerous children and a pillar of strength in her community. Mary was born on September 26, 1939, to her parents Worley and Lula Mae Elam, among eleven siblings.
Mary Ann's vibrant personality earned her the endearing nickname of "a fireball" and "mama to everyone." Her passion for collecting movies, love for pictures, and dedication to caring for children were just a few testaments to her kind and nurturing spirit. Mary Ann's proudest accomplishments stemmed from the challenges she faced in life, which only served to make her stronger and more resilient.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Merlo; grandchildren Whitney Rivers, Mia Mairena (Jay), Ashton Challender (Lizzy); great-grandchildren Aubrianna, Jr., Taylon, Tristan, and A.B; sisters Mary Lou Challender, Linda Foster, and Rosie Fuqua; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Mary Ann Lummus will be remembered for her unwavering love, boundless generosity, and everlasting impact on all those whose lives she touched. While she may no longer walk amongst us, her legacy of compassion and selflessness will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A memorial service to honor Mary Ann's life will be held at a later date.
