Maylean Welford Pridgen, born on April 25, 1936, was a longtime resident of Chickasaw and Saraland where she was a member of Bayou Sara Baptist Church, passed away April 11, 2026. Maylean was born in Leakesville, MS and grew up in the Winborn community.
Maylean was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, mother in-law, and friend. She found great joy in caring for her family, especially through cooking Sunday meals, which was her special way of showing love to those around her. She would do absolutely anything for her family and friends and was known for her generous and giving spirit. She had a way of extending grace to everyone and carried herself with a quiet humility and kindness that made people feel seen and loved. She loved The Lord with all her heart and her faith was evident.
Mrs. Pridgen is preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Ed Welford; husband, Hermon Pridgen; daughters, Janet Sharlene Pridgen and Sharon Gros; and grandson, Daniel Burgin. She is survived by her children, Kathy (Wayne) McBride, Randy (Katrina) Pridgen, Ronald (Vikki) Pridgen, grandchildren, Ashley (Monty) Anderson, Adam (Jackie) Burgin, Lauren (Casey) Ginder, Katie (Ryan) Hamilton, Nolan Pridgen (Kaitlyn Sutherlin), Tierney (Eric) VanDriessche, Rachel Pridgen, Daniel Pridgen, and Anna Pridgen, ten great-grandchildren and extended family and friends (and her special friend Terry Lane). She will be sincerely missed by all.
A visitation to honor Maylene’s life will be held from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM Celebration of Life on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Winborn Chapel Methodist Church, 455 Winborn Chapel Road, Lucedale, Mississippi with Bro. Danny Box and Bro. Dean Box officiating.
She will be deeply missed, but we find peace in knowing she is now in the presence of her Savior and that one day we will see her again. Her love will live on in all of us.
