Minnie Boutwell Barnett, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on August 20, 2025, at USA Health Providence Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 28, 1948, Minnie graduated from Jackson High School in 1966, marking the beginning of a life filled with dedication and service to her community and family.
Minnie devoted many years to her career as a Mount Vernon City Clerk and later retired from South Alabama Utilities. Her commitment to her work reflected her strong sense of responsibility. Known for her wit, intelligence, and warmth, she touched the lives of those around her, building lasting relationships with friends and colleagues.
In addition to her professional life, Minnie was passionate about her personal interests. She enjoyed reading and collecting antiques, relishing the stories and history each piece held. Her green thumb led her to become a Master Gardener, nurturing her love for nature and sharing the beauty of her garden with family and friends. One of her greatest joys was cooking for everyone, she was especially famous for her divinity, pecan pies, peanut brittle, and deviled eggs.
Minnie was devoted to her family, who were her proudest accomplishments. She shared 42 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Donald Barnett. Together, they nurtured a close-knit family that included cherished children, Angela Black (Billy), David Barnett, Jennifer Barnett, and Anna Barnett. She took immense joy in her role as a grandmother to Morgan Barnett, Kennedy Moore (Bailey), Houston Barnett (Jasmine), Sutton Black, Jon Hunter Roney, and Elizabeth Mae Baker, and was a proud great-grandmother to little Violet Barnett. Minnie also held dear the bonds she shared with her siblings—Wanda Pezent, Billie Sue Windham (Tommy), Renee Williams (Geary), Stacey Boutwell (Sharon), Vic Nader (Tina), and Tina Carpenter—and cherished her multitude of nieces and nephews, along with countless other relatives and friends.
Minnie joins her father, Herman Boutwell, and mother, Martha Lou Nader, in eternal rest. Her legacy of love and connection will continue through those she leaves behind.
A visitation will be held in her honor on August 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church with Pastor Charles Gambrell and Bro. Donnie Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Community Cemetery. Minnie's life will be celebrated, and her impact will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
