Opie Earl Sullivan, affectionately known as O.C., passed away Thursday, March 04, 2021, at his home. He was 80 years old. O.C. was a lifetime resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama. He was a successful man, having been his own boss his whole adult life. He opened and ran O.C.’s Gas Station as well as Sullivan Timber Company. O.C. was also very active in his community, helping form the Mount Moriah Cemetery Committee. Most of all, O.C. was a family man who loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and tending to his cows. O.C. was well known and loved throughout the community and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. O.C. was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Lucille Sullivan; siblings, Louise Joy, Homer Sullivan, and Willie Sullivan. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Rachel Sullivan; children, Ouida Atchison (Wendell), Arnold Sullivan (Tammy), Amy Byrd (Dennis), Connie Gerald (Tripp), and Amanda Hill (Scoot); grandchildren, Lindsey, Kristian (Matt), Matthew (Courtney), Mallory, Arnold, Jr. (Katie), Dexter (Alex), Blaine, Emily, Kyler, and Avery; six great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Rivers (Stevie); special niece, Cheryl; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 12pm until the 2pm funeral service Sunday, March 07, 2021, at Mount Moriah Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Toomey officiating.
