Rex Earl Parnell, born July 21, 1956, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Throughout his 69 years, Rex led a life marked by devotion to his loved ones, faith, work, and community.

A beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Rex is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Parnell. His memory is cherished by his children, Hannah Marie Shirley (Tres), Kristina Marie Dickerson (PJ), Jamie Lee Ramey (Jessica), and Charmagne Goldsmith (Roy). He is also remembered by his eight grandchildren; brother, Rayford Parnell, and by his sisters, Barabara Ann Gibson, Flora Parnell, Audrey Hankins (Bert), and Claudia Mae DeVaughn (George); a multitude of nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Rex was preceded in death by his father, Earl Parnell, and his mother, Juanita Parnell. He joins in eternal rest his brothers, William Earl Parnell and Raymond Parnell, and his sisters, Pearl Boutwell and Mary Jane Carraway.

Rex took great pride in his work at G.A. West, where he considered his colleagues as an extension of his family. The bonds he formed and the dedication he showed to his craft are fondly remembered by those who had the pleasure of working alongside him.

Outside of work, Rex's passions were many. He found true joy in hunting and fishing, pursuits that brought him peace and adventure in equal measure. Rex’s faith was central to his life, as he was deeply devoted to going to church and praising the Lord. Family gatherings were especially meaningful to him; he was well known as “the grill master,” delighting family and friends with his skills at the barbecue and creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

Above all, Rex’s proudest accomplishments were his children and grandchildren. The love, guidance, and wisdom he shared with his family will live on, continuing to inspire those he leaves behind.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a wake at Freeman Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A visitation will be held at Charity Chapel Assembly of God Church, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. funeral service.
