Robert "Dude" Wayne Rivers passed away peacefully at his home on January 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 26, 1952, Robert lived a life characterized by kindness and love, which echoed through both his personal and professional endeavors.
For his entire career, Robert dedicated himself to the logging industry, embracing hard work and commitment that served as a testament to his character. He took pride in his work and the vibrant community it fostered. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he found joy in nature and shared many cherished moments outdoors. Robert's love for gardening allowed him to nurture life in more ways than one, instilling a sense of growth and patience in all that he pursued. Moreover, his die-hard allegiance to Alabama football was a source of spirited enthusiasm, further connecting him with family and friends who shared in the excitement of the games.
Family was of utmost importance to Robert. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Debra Ewing Rivers, who stood by his side through life's journey. Together, they raised a loving family that includes his children, Vanessa Weaver (Aaron), Lyla Rivers (Tom), Lavanda Smith, Pepper Smith (Jerome), Kevin Dueitt (Lisa) and Robert Slaughter (Roxanne). Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Ollie Cole, and a host of loving cousins: Cleve Rivers, Luther Rivers, Carolyn Rivers, and Sylvia Williams. Robert's legacy continues through his 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply and considered his proudest accomplishment.
Robert was preceded by his mother, Mary Lofton; father, Coolidge "Dude" Rivers; son, Michael Dueitt; and grandson, Brandon Davis. The loss of these loved ones profoundly shaped his life and continues to resonate within the hearts of his surviving family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM Funeral Service at Rivers Baptist Church with Bro. Sammy Rivers officiating. Burial will follow in Rivers Baptist Church Cemetery. Robert's family invites all who knew him to come together to celebrate a remarkable life and the love that he freely shared. In honoring his memory, may we all strive to embody the kindness and devotion he demonstrated throughout his life.
