Sarah Lucille Coggin, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026. Born on May 21, 1933, Sarah lived a life marked by devotion, faith, and unwavering love for her family and church.
Known for her loving, caring, and thoughtful nature, Sarah was a true Proverbs 31 woman in every sense. Despite being visually impaired, she exhibited remarkable resilience and skill, sewing her own clothes as well as those of her daughter. Her culinary talents brought joy to her family through countless delicious meals prepared with love. Sarah’s voice graced the Fellowship Baptist Church choir for many years, where she mastered her alto part by rote and often delighted the congregation by singing duets with her husband, John. Her steadfast faith and gentle spirit remained unshaken even as her health declined in later years, a testament to her enduring strength and grace.
Sarah gracefully fulfilled her role as a faithful Pastor’s wife for 56 years, standing alongside her husband with unwavering support and sharing in the service of their church community. She was a long-time, active member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Chunchula, Alabama, where her presence and contributions left an indelible impression on all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving sister, Marion Oliver; her children, John "Johnny" S. Coggin, Jr. (Linda), Diana Byrd, and Keith Coggin (Lisa); as well as nine grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also cherish her memory.
Sarah was preceded in death by her devoted husband, John S. Coggin; her parents, William Isaac "Ike" and Mary Gertrude Sloan; her sister, Mary Blalack; and grandson, Elisha Coggin.
A visitation will be held on May 22, 2026, from 11:00 until the 12:00 funeral service at Fellowship Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama. Family, friends, and all who were touched by Sarah’s life are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of her remarkable journey.
Sarah Lucille Coggin’s legacy of love, faith, and dedication will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know her. Her gentle spirit and generous heart have left a lasting imprint on her family, church, and community, and she will be deeply missed.
