Sarah Joyce Byrd

Sarah Joyce Byrd passed away on February 23, 2021 after a heroic battle with COVID-19. She was 88 years young. Sarah had been living in Birmingham, AL near family for the last six years following the passing of her husband, Harold Byrd. Sarah and Harold resided in Citronelle for 36 years and were members of Memorial Baptist Church.

Sarah enjoyed life’s simple pleasures like reading, camping with her husband and friends, spending time with family and seeing her grandkids. To them she was Maw Maw. Her family describes her as a giving, loving mother and grandmother who possessed a deep faith for the Lord and selflessly helped many friends over the years in times of sickness and need.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Harold Byrd, who passed away in 2014.

Surviving family members include her two daughters, Tammie Byrd Howard of Birmingham, AL and Christine Byrd of Floyd, VA along with two sons-in-law Kasey Howard and Thom Leedom. Sarah also has four loving grandchildren, Katelyn Howard Elliott, Coleton Howard, Ryan Leedom and Ethan Leedom. Other family members include sister-in-law Pat Byrd, grandson-in-law Hunter Elliott, nephew Brett Byrd and lifelong friend Dottie Cotton. She was loved by many and will never be forgotten.

Sarah Byrd will be remembered on Saturday, February 27 with a visitation at 1:00 p.m. followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Both will be held at Memorial Baptist Church in Citronelle, AL. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.
