Spencer Dean Byrd, a cherished husband, devoted father, loving grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away on January 16, 2025, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. Born on April 4, 1950, Spencer lived a life rich with love for his family and country, earning deep respect and admiration from all who knew him.

Spencer was a proud Army veteran who served valiantly in the Vietnam War. His dedication to his country was matched only by his unwavering devotion to his family, which he considered his greatest accomplishment. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Byrd, and their children: Spencer Byrd, Jr. (Tina), Tex Byrd, Jr. (DeeDee), Travis Byrd, Jonathan "Boo" Rivers, Joesie Bible (Brad), and Angie "Coot" Byrd. Spencer took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Spencer Byrd, III (Brittany), Brandon Gage Byrd (Lari), Zachary Byrd (Delaine), Yery Mejia, Kennedy Byrd, TK Byrd, Jayden Stagner, and Kowin Reed, and a great-grandfather to Jacey Byrd, Eric Reed, Kaiden Wilson, and Baylor Byrd. His family was the highlight of his life, and he found joy in every moment spent with them.

In addition to his immediate family, Spencer is survived by his aunt, Mary "Dot" Byrd, and his siblings: Leamon Byrd, Jr. (Bonnie), Rita Byrd, Melton Byrd, Audrey Byrd, Sebron Byrd, and Robin Byrd Weaver (Hal). He also leaves behind a large extended family, including many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a dear friend, Clyde Weaver (Carolyn).

Spencer had various interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He enjoyed playing cards and frequently took trips to the casino, where he could be found engaging with friends and family alike. Additionally, he treasured the time spent babysitting his great-grandchildren, whose laughter and energy brought him endless happiness.

Spencer was preceded in death by his parents, Leamon and Octavia Byrd, and his siblings, Sarah Chestang, Tex Byrd, and Kattie Byrd.

A series of services will honor Spencer's life and legacy. A wake will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026 at Freeman Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM with roseary beginning at 5:30 PM. A visitation will be held the followin day, Tuesday, Januray 20, 2026 at Saint Theresa Catholic Church beginning at 10:00 AM until the Mass of the Ressurection at 11:00 AM with Father Victor Ingalls as celebrant. Burial will follow in Byrd Cemetery. 

Spencer Dean Byrd will be remembered for his immense love for his family and friends, his courageous service to his country, and the joyful moments he shared with all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of love and pride will continue to live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
