Susan Teresa Haselmaier

August 12, 1963 — May 5, 2009

Susan Teresa Haselmaier, born August 12, 1963, a native and life long resident of Mt. Vernon, died May 5, 2009 at a local hospital with all of her family by her side. Ms. Haselmaier touched many people during her life through her art, Camps for the Disabled, and community youth functions. She was the March of Dimes poster child in 1968. She was a 1982 graduate of McIntosh Academy and was the first handicapped/disabled person to receive a degree at the University of Mobile in Art and English. She was a current member of the United Methodist Church of Calvert and previous member of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. Ms. Haselmaier is preceded in death by her father, Rudolph Henry Haselmaier and her brother, Stanley "Brent" Haselmaier. She is survived by her mother, Sylvia Floyd Haselmaier of Mt. Vernon; Two Brothers, Ronald (Peggy) Haselmaier of Satsuma and Joseph Wesley Haselmaier of Mt. Vernon; Three Nieces, Valerie (Devin) Gardner, Jessica Marie Haselmaier, and Whitney Danielle Haselmaier, all of Satsuma; One Nephew, James Wesley Haselmaier of Mt. Vernon; One Great Niece, Hartleigh Gardner and One Great Nephew, Noah D. Gardner, both of Satsuma; Two Uncles, Gerald (Joan) Floyd of Mobile and Basil "Jap" Haselmaier, Jr. of Mt. Vernon; And many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 3 PM until the 4 PM funeral service on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home, P.O. Box 830, Selma, AL, 36702.
