Tommie Lee Powell

Tommie Lee Powell, born November 6, 1933, passed away on September 20, 2026.

A lifelong woman of strength and conviction, Tommie was known for being stern and opinionated, qualities that reflected her clear sense of purpose and the steady way she moved through life. She graduated from Citronelle High School in 1951 and went on to build a long and dedicated career as a bookkeeper. She worked for Citronelle Unit Manager for 24 years and also served as a bookkeeper at Weslyn Christian Academy and Buck Denton Oil Service.

Outside of her work, Tommie found happiness in simple and lasting pleasures. She loved tending her flower beds, cherished her dog, Ginger, and enjoyed traveling with her husband. These interests brought color, companionship, and joy to her life and will remain part of the memories held by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Powell. She also leaves behind her sons, Michael Harold Dees (Cindy), and Thomas Frank Dees (Tina); her stepdaughter, Faye Smith (David); her stepson, Robert Harold Powell (Tanya); her grandchildren, Michael Keith Dees (Dana), Kevin Lee Dees (Haley), TJ Dees (Holly), and Aaron Dees; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Tommie is also survived by her brother, Tom Baxter; her special friend, Maxine Rowell; and her cousins, Jimmy Baxter and Joe Salata. She will be remembered with love by her family and friends and by all who shared in her life over the years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Tom Baxter; her mother, Ida Baxter; and her sisters, Winnie Kelly and Linda Faye King.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the10:00 a.m. funeral service at Freeman Funeral Home with Bro. Anthony Tutor and Bro. Barton Turner officiating. Burial will take place at Deer Park Cemetery.
