Velicia Shentel Preston

Velicia Shentel Preston, a resident of Fairford, Alabama, passed away Monday, March 21, 2022. Cookie, as she was affectionately known, was loved by everybody who met her. She loved family more than anything to ever exist. Not only was it the family she created on her own, but the family she was raised in. She focused her life on the well-being of our mother (Gail Patrick) and our brother (Gabriel Gallegos). Her passion was driving big trucks, but she put that on hold for those two. She surpassed the definition of a big sister to her two younger sisters; she was more like a mother figure to them. She always did more than what was expected of her, and she did it all while raising her three daughters. She loved the ground her children walked on, and she was the biggest fan of all three of them. She found a love so true from her husband, Ricky (Bo) Preston; he was her anchor in every storm. She was his saving grace as he was for her. She loved Alabama football and screamed to the top of her lungs each touchdown they made. She filled some big shoes and never complained, now it is time for her to rest while we put her shoes on.

Velicia was preceded in death by her mother, Gail Patrick; her father, Trazon Reed; and her brother, Gabriel Gallegos.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 12 years, Rickey ''Bo'' Preston; children, Serenity Wooten (Deangelious), Ana Robles, Abagail Robles, Caleb Preston (Cassie), Jessica Dawson (Elvie); grandchildren, Maurice, Deangelious Jr., Mariya; sisters, Hannah Rivers (Robin), and Trinity Terrell (Nijale); nieces and nephews, Patrick Sullivan, Robin Rivers, Jr., Mikayleigh Rivers, Lakayla Terrell, Melinda Rivers, Elaina Rivers, and Heavenly Rivers; close friends, Verna Rae Boothe, Natalie Nelson, and Jessica Knight; other relatives; and many friends.

A wake will be held for Velicia beginning at 6pm Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Sims Chapel Holiness Church. The funeral service will be held at 10am Friday, March 25, 2022, at Sims Chapel Holiness Church with Rev. Willie Long, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Williams Cemetery.
