Virginia Sue Byrd

April 15, 1946 — April 26, 2023

 

Virginia Sue Byrd, a resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama, passed away April 26, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was 77 years old.  Gennie, as she was affectionately known, was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She loved going to Mass and reciting the Rosary.  Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family and cook for her children and grandchildren.  Gennie was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Gennie was preceded in death by her husband of many years, McArthur Byrd, Sr.; son, Robert Byrd; siblings, James A. Lofton, Adrian Lofton, Otis Lofton, Sarah Delphine Byrd, Annie Weaver, Douglas Lofton; parents, Albert and Martha Lofton; and many good friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Sarrah Jane Weaver; son, McArthur Byrd, Jr. (Brenda); grandchildren, Andrew Paul Weaver (Breanna Kyle), Courtney Byrd (Roland), Sarina Byrd (Devin), Ella Byrd (Anthony), Trey Henry Byrd (Kaityln); great-grandchildren, Celsie Rivers, Raely Byrd, Rayden Byrd, Raydence Byrd, Anthony Byrd, and Kristin Byrd; sister, Rosie Jane Byrd; a host of special nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

The family will receive friends from 10am until the 11am Mass of the Resurrection Saturday, May 06, 2023, at Saint Theresa Catholic Church with Rev. John Coghlan, Celebrant.  Burial will follow in Byrd Cemetery.  Pallbearers include Roy Rivers, Jr., Douglas Weaver, Jr., Jimmy Joel Byrd, William Lofton, Steve Lofton, and James Albert Lofton.  Honorary pallbearers include Juanita Weaver, Vera Rivers, Shirley Mae Lofton, Sophie Lofton (deceased), and many more close friends.
