Virginia Odom

August 29, 1935 — June 29, 2025

Deer Park, Alabama

Virginia Odom, a beloved mother, grandmother, and community member, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 29, 1935, Virginia dedicated her life to her family, her career, and her faith.

After a remarkable 40-year career, Virginia retired as the Cashier/Vice President at First Community Bank, where she was admired for her dedication and work ethic. Her professional accomplishments were matched only by her personal devotion to her family. Her love of Jesus, her church, her flowers, and her husband meant everything to her.

Virginia's greatest joy came from her role as a matriarch, and she fostered strong bonds within her family, which included her children: Larry Odom (Barbara), Brenda Sue Hartley, Chris A. Odom (Polly), Hazel Ellen Odom, and Mitchell Fredrick Odom. Virginia's legacy continues through her 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and her sister-in-law, Billie Linzey.

Virginia's personality was a source of warmth and joy to all who knew her. Her loving, caring nature was complemented by a great sense of humor and a remarkably positive outlook on life. She found pleasure in simple joys such as tending to her flower garden, enjoying outdoor activities, and spending quality time with friends and neighbors playing dominos and cards. Virginia was also an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed stimulating her mind with word searches and jigsaw puzzles. An active member of her community, she never missed church, reflecting her deep commitment to her faith.

Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Odom, her parents, Fred and Elsie Dorman, and her siblings: Marion Dorman, Herbert Dorman, Eunice Johnston, Jessie Donald, Mary Abling, Quitman Dorman, Jody Gates, Lavern Dorman, and Dolly Parnell. Their memories will remain intertwined with Virginia’s as she is remembered for the love and light she brought into the lives of many.

Her family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate her life during the visitation on July 3, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service at Deer Park Fellowship Church with Bro. Jason Kittrell, Bro. Denny McDavid, and Bro. Barton Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Deer Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Odom, Joseph Odom, Blake Odom, Kole Kittrell, Jackson Odom, and Carter Scarbrough. Honorary pallbearers will be Lamon Linzey, Wayne Johnston, Jack Johnston, Scottie Dorman, and Richard Dorman.

Virginia Odom will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.
