Citronelle, Alabama

Walter E Turner, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on February 16, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on February 6, 1949, he lived a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful contributions to his community.

Walter proudly graduated from Citronelle High School in 1967 before furthering his education at Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture. His knowledge and passion for horticulture later guided him through a fulfilling career, starting with thirty years at Searcy Hospital, followed by a decade with the city of Citronelle.

Walter’s commitment to his faith was evident throughout his life. He was ordained as a deacon in 1983 and devoted his time and talents to serve his church family at Bethel Baptist Church, Living Word Church, Memorial Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church. Walter had a profound love for sharing Jesus and made a lasting impact on all those who crossed his path through his warmth and humor.

Known for his infectious laughter and welcoming spirit, he endeared himself to many, ensuring everyone felt at home in his presence. Walter was an avid fan of Auburn University and had a deep appreciation for nature, enjoying gardening, hunting deer and turkeys, and fishing for brim and catfish on the river. He cherished moments sitting on his front porch, cooking, and spending quality time at the cabin, which was always open to friends and family. His hands also crafted memories through woodworking alongside his brother and best friend.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carol Turner; his children, Corey Raybon (Matt) and Walt Turner (Sandi); his grandchildren, Hope Griffin (Nick), Raegan Reynolds, Brady Turner, Blake Turner (Lexie), and Gabe Reynolds; his great-granddaughters, Addison and Charlotte; his brother, Rickey Turner (Carolyn); and his sister, Karen Hobbs (Marc). His legacy lives on in the hearts of his multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and countless friends who were touched by his kindness and spirit.

He is united in death with his father, Ervin Turner; his mother, Johnnie Bell Lankford; and his brother, David Lloyd Turner.
