William Anthony Rushing, Sr., known affectionately as Anthony, was born on June 16, 1965, and passed away on August 21, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy defined by warmth, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and community.
A man of vibrant spirit and gentle patience, Anthony was gifted with a personality that endeared him to everyone he met—he never encountered a stranger, and his kindness was as evident as his genuine nature. Friends and family describe him as transparent, sweet, and incredibly likeable, qualities that made him a treasured presence in every aspect of his life.
His working years were marked by diligence and commitment. Anthony spent over two decades at the Shipyard before transitioning to a long-standing career in the steel industry. His remarkable work ethic, respect for his colleagues, and pride in a job well done left an indelible impression on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Anthony held deep passions that brought joy and meaning to his life. He was a devoted fan of Alabama football and found relaxation and delight in simple pleasures—singing, savoring Little Debbie cakes, drinking coffee, and above all, reading his bible. His dedication to his faith was steadfast; he took great comfort in attending church and found community and solace within its walls.
Family was at the very core of Anthony’s heart, and his proudest achievements were not in professional accolades, but in the devoted love he shared with his wife, son, and grandchildren. His wife, Jennifer, was his lifelong companion, and together they built a home filled with laughter, love, and mutual respect. He is also survived by his beloved son, Anthony Rushing, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Judith, who both held a special place in his heart. Anthony’s legacy continues through his three cherished grandchildren, London, Ezra, and Hadlee, each of whom brought him immeasurable happiness and pride.
His presence is deeply missed by his brothers, David Rushing (Sylvia) and Calvin Rushing (Wendy); his special aunts, Linda Landry (Tom), and Marsha Hattenstein; and his special uncle, Leon Hattenstein (Carolyn). The family finds comfort in remembering the close bonds they shared with Anthony, whose warmth and wisdom enriched their lives.
Anthony is preceded in death by his father, Leroy Rushing; his mother, Dwaun Rushing; and his beloved sisters, Vickie Warning and Doreen Warning. The memories they created together live on in the hearts of those who mourn his passing.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Lighthouse of Praise Church with Bro. Ken Davis and Bro. Clevon Weaver officiating. Following the service, Anthony will be laid to rest at Byrd Cemetery.
