William Virgil Byrd, born on November 15, 1953, passed away on August 20, 2026, at Springhill Memorial Hospital. With his passing, a devoted family man, steadfast in his faith and love for those around him, is mourned and remembered by all who knew him.
Virgil was the beloved son of R.B. Byrd and Gertrude Byrd, both of whom preceded him in death. Throughout his life, he found immense pride and joy in his family, cherishing the special bonds he forged with his children and grandchildren. Virgil was unwavering in his support and presence; he never missed a family event and treasured every precious moment spent among his loved ones.
Rooted deeply in his faith, Virgil considered it among his proudest accomplishments. His faith served as a guiding force in his daily life and interactions with others, a testament to his steadfast character and integrity.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Agnes Byrd; children, Joey Byrd (Cassandra), Dawn Sullivan (Dossie), Mary Lu Byrd-Weaver (Van), Jeremy Scott Lofton, Albert Lofton, and Talia Rivers; grandchildren, William Byrd, Sophia Weaver (Kirk), Kenny Byrd (Kyleigh), Dossie Shane Sullivan, Zoey Byrd, and Christopher Butler (Millie); great grandchildren, Kynbree Jo, Kenny Jr., and Kendall; siblings, Canary Taylor, Earl Byrd (Myra), Ed Byrd (Barbara), Robert Byrd, Dennis Byrd (Pam), and Nancy Snow (Steve); aunt, Mary "Dot" Byrd; a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins; other relatives and many friends.
Outside of his family and faith, Virgil delighted in the simple pleasures of life. An avid Alabama football fan, he followed the team passionately through every season. He enjoyed the camaraderie and challenge of rabbit hunting, found peace on fishing trips, and always placed a priority on time spent with family. Each of these interests reflected William's appreciation for fellowship, tradition, and the beauty of nature.
William Virgil Byrd’s life will be honored and remembered during a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at McKinley Pentecostal Church with Bro. Jackie Snow officiating. He will be laid to rest at Byrd Cemetery.
In remembering Virgil, all who knew him are reminded of a life devoted to faith, family, and the joys of community. His legacy and the impact he had on those who loved him most will endure for generations to come.
