Personalized Memorial Options for Gravesites

There are many ways to personalize everything from the graveside service to the procession to the funeral home, and even the memorial itself.

One of the most popular ways to honor a deceased loved one is to visit their grave site, perhaps adorning it with a floral arrangement as you leave. Flowers are always a great way to show your respects at a loved one's final resting place, but it's not the only option available to you. There are a number of creative ways to decorate a grave site, bringing it some natural beauty and demonstrating that your loved one remains close to your heart.

It's not uncommon to decorate grave sites with American flags - particularly if your loved one was a veteran. And, for those whose loved ones were born in other countries, you may wish to decorate their grave site with the colors of their motherland.

Seasonal displays are also a good option. For example, when fall weather rolls in, you might decorate your loved one's grave site with some pumpkins. For Valentine's Day, consider a display of roses or paper hearts. As Christmas nears, holly, bells, and wreaths can all be employed.

Visiting the gravesite of a child can be especially painful, but there are some age-appropriate ways to show your respects - perhaps by leaving stuffed animals or toys at the grave site.

You might also consider special lighting. You can order some elegant, solar lights that will illuminate your loved one's headstone - even in the nighttime hours.

This is an area where a little creativity can go a long way, and there are very few limits to what you can do to show your respects. If you do have any questions about what's appropriate, don't hesitate to contact either the cemetery owner or your funeral director.
